September 11, 2001 was a dark day for America. Terrorist attacks killed 2977 people and destroyed the Twin Towers in New York. The 9/11 Memorial was built where these attacks took place to remember the victims. It opened on the day after the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. Two square pools are filled using waterfalls and the names of the victims are inscribed on the edge of the pools.

The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of hope and an icon of New York City. To many American people, it represents freedom and national pride. It has also been referenced in many poems, books, and pop culture. ¡®The New Colossus¡¯ by Emma Lazarus is a famous poem that talks about The Statue of Liberty. First unveiled in 1886, it was a gift from France to the United States and was made using copper. Over time, the statue has become the shade of green it is known for today.

The main United Nations headquarters is situated in New York, along the East River. In this building, which was completed in 1952, are the main parts of the UN. These include the General Assembly and the Security Council, where decisions on peacekeeping and political disputes are made.
